Getting
Started
Ok, you've got
the boots, boards, bindings, clothing and the lessons are booked.
You're set, right? Well, not quite. One important key to a better
first time out is being physically prepared. That means training
your cardiovascular, muscular strength/endurance and flexibility
systems.
Emphasis for
beginners is on balance/strengthening the "wrist, elbow, shoulder"
(for getting up and falling down), "neck and lower back"
(injury protection), and "ankle, lower leg" (less leg
muscle burn = more rides). Clicking on the snowboard workout links
listed on the left (strength, cardio, flexibility, injury prevention
and plyometrics), will give you the specifics on each component.
For great fitness tips and articles (including exercising in the
cold), click on the CPT HOME page above. When reading the description
of each strength exercise make sure to check out the beginners note
section. This will give modifications or alternate exercises if
needed.
Well, that's
about it, so start working out, grab your gear, and get ready for
the time of your life!!
